NDIS key dates for providers
Each date below links to the law or the official page it comes from. “Announced” means the Government has said it, and the detailed rules are still to come.
Once you are registered
Registration period and renewal
Registration lasts 3 years. You can apply to renew in the 6 months before it ends. If you apply before the end date, your registration stays valid until the Commission decides. If you apply after it, your registration has lapsed while the new application is assessed.8
Mid-term audit
Providers in certification groups start a mid-term audit no later than 18 months after registration begins, unless the Commissioner allows longer or an exemption applies. It covers governance and operational management, and any standard with an open corrective action plan.1
Fixing audit findings
A major non-conformity must be fixed within 3 months, and registration does not progress until it is fixed and audited. Minor non-conformities have a longer period, and registration can continue.9
Risk assessed roles list
Registered providers keep a written list of all risk assessed roles, with the role, why it is risk assessed, the date it was assessed and who assessed it. Update it within 20 business days of identifying a new role or reclassifying one. Workers in these roles need an NDIS worker screening clearance. Keep these records for 7 years.10
Restrictive practice reports
Registered providers that use regulated restrictive practices report that use to the Commissioner every month, or every 2 weeks under a short-term state or territory approval. The Commission asks for the monthly report within 5 business days of month end, including months with no use.11
Reportable incident records
Keep records of reportable incidents for 7 years from the date you notified the Commission.12
